Abstract

One of the challenges in Long Term Evolution (LTE) and next generation cellular networks (5G) is the traffic overload and the network congestion caused by massive Machine Type Communication (MTC) devices accessing to an Evolved Node B (eNodeB) simultaneously. In this paper, a novel method is proposed, named Advanced Traffic Scattering for Group Paging (A-TSFGP), aiming to alleviate the system overload and the network congestion. A-TSFGP scatters the MTC devices over different time slots. And MTC devices in the same time slot will get the permissions to access the network according to the dynamic Access Class Barring (ACB) mechanism. The novelty of the method is scattering the accessed devices into different slots in detail, using the advantages of GP method and ACB mechanism. A-TSFGP improves access probability and resource utilization rate for MTC devices. Simulation results show that the proposed A-TSFGP method achieves high performances in terms of the success probability, the collision probability, the average number of preamble transmission and the resource utilization rate.
