Abstract

It is shown how the backwards implicit (BI) method may be applied to the description, under steady-state conditions, of complex electrode reaction mechanisms involving coupled homogeneous kinetics and several kinetic species, taking place at channel electrodes. Specifically the EC, ECE, DISP1 and DISP2 mechanisms are examined, and it is shown how the transport-limited currents and current–voltage curves associated with these processes may be computed. The advantages of the method, particularly when compared with analytical approaches, are stressed.
