Abstract

A well-known electrochemical technique has been used in order to measure average mass transfer coefficients between a stagnant liquid and a moving continuous cylinder (e.g. a fibre). These experiments confirmed the theory, which has been presented in a previous paper: ▪ The proportionality factor, C, is a function of the Schmidt number and of the ratio of the boundary layer thickness to the wire radius (see Fig. 7). For low values of this ratio and for high Schmidt numbers, the results of both theory and experiment give C = 1·13.
