Abstract
Capillary action of an Au–Ag core-shell nanorod solution between a copper wire (ϕ = 0.18 mm) and an indium tin oxide (ITO) plate controlled deposition of nanorods. Nanorods were sparsely deposited on a plate, and optical dark-field microscopy revealed the numbers of nanorods in laser-irradiated spots of a laser desorption/ionization (LDI) mass spectrometry. When the numbers of the laser-irradiated nanorods were smaller than 50, silver-ion signal intensities (Ag2+, m/z 214, 216, and 218) were linearly dependent of the nanorod numbers. The mass signal intensity from a single nanorod was estimated in the range of 93–143.
