Abstract

Within the standard six-quark model with the Kobayashi-Maskawa parametrisation the mass of the top quark is estimated using both the KL-KS mass difference and the CP non-conservation parameter epsilon of the neutral-kaon system as two independent constraints. Requiring consistency between these estimates, it is found that the mass of the top quark is mt>or approximately=56 GeV if mod Uub mod / mod Ucb mod <or=0.16, mod Ucb mod <or=0.09 and B<or=1.0, where B represents the ratio of the estimate of (K0 mod (S gamma mu (1- gamma 5)d)2 mod K0) to the vacuum insertion approximation of -4/3fK2mK for this matrix element. Moreover, one may set up allowed ranges of mixing angles beyond which no consistency is found. The author finds s2<or=0.15, 0.002<or=s3<or=0.062 and sin delta >or=0.037 for mod Uub mod / mod Ucb mod <or=0.16, mod Ucb mod <or=0.09 and B<or=1.0.
