Abstract

Mass-balance studies, based primarily on the determination of net mass balance as indicated by a network of point measurements on the surface of the glacier, were begun in 1967. In 1967, a specific mass balance of 0.81 m of water equivalent was measured; in 1968, this value dropped to 0.53 m. This positive mass balance during the two years of study appears to be primarily related to local topoclimatological controls.
