Abstract

A study was undertaken to determine whether there is a difference in masking of corneal cylinder between hydrogel lenses made of HEMA and GMMA or between thin and standard thickness designs. The method for determining masking deviated from prior studies, which often relied solely on over-refraction, by also considering keratometry measurements over the lenses in situ. No statistically significant masking of corneal cylinder was found with either a thin design GMMA lens, a thin design HEMA lens, or a standard thickness HEMA lens.
