Abstract

During the Cold War era, Finnish rock/pop music was seeking its national identity and transformed itself because of the appropriation of Anglo-American musical influences. This chapter deals with the emergence of Finnish national rock and popular music culture, especially from the dissemination of Anglo musical influences and the appropriation of British Invasion-era rock music culture to Finland. In this case, Finland adopted the Anglo influences in three different periods: first, British Invasion and Beatlemania; then, progressive rock and related genres, and lastly, punk, disco, and new wave.
