Abstract

This paper studies the role of transient surplus profit in both Marx’s and Schumpeter’s dynamic theory of competition and technical change. After a verbal interpretation of their theories mathematical sensitivity and error analysis is utilized to elaborate the impact of product and process innovation on (1) long-run production prices, (2) inter firm and interindustry profitability differences, and (3) short-run profit margins and long-run rate of returns.
