Abstract

Martensitic transformation of annealed melt-spun Ti 50Ni 25Cu 25 ribbons is investigated. Experimental results reveal that Ti 50Ni 25Cu 25 ribbons annealed at a temperature above or below T x have identical crystallization behavior and exhibit B2 ↔ B19 martensitic transformation. Ti 50Ni 25Cu 25 ribbons can have good shape memory effect and damping capacity when annealed under appropriate conditions to acquire abundant crystallized grains with low Cu content. In order to obtain the optimal shape memory effect, it is better to anneal crystallized ribbons at temperature between T g and T x because crystallization of ribbons is slower and it is easier to control their properties.
