Abstract

Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), India's first interplanetary mission, was placed in a highly elliptical orbit around the red planet Mars. In this paper, we predict Mars longer duration eclipses for the MOM spacecraft using the satellite precise orbit propagator (SPOP). The longer eclipses predicted by SPOP is compared with the commercial propagator HPOP/STK of Ansys Inc. By considering these eclipses and based on the current fuel availability of the MOM, we have carried out the aerobraking feasibility study and the spacecraft entry on the Martian surface.
