Abstract

Florence Marryat (1833–99) was a prolific author, editor of London Society , actress, playwright, orator, operatic singer, and spiritualist. Marryat was a modern Victorian, aware of the performativity of women's cultural positions, who shaped her public image through a variety of filial and professional roles.
