Abstract
The steadily increasing rate of divorce in our society indicates the desirability and need of more information and education in the field of marriage relationship. This book, recording symposia held in 1961 and 1962 under the sponsorship of the three North Carolina medical schools and two other organizations, admirably fulfills some of that need. There are four parts: marriage counseling by the physician, premarital medical counseling, concepts of marital diagnosis and therapy, and marriage counseling instruction in the medical school curriculum. In the lineup of contributors, Rex Speers proves an admirable lead-off man, with an excellent chapter on marriage counseling and the general practitioner. The language of Lansing's following chapter on sexual symptoms as presenting complaints is a welcome relief from the frequently encountered psychiatric jargon.
