A procedure for effectively supplementing existing in-home timeout programs with children is introduced. Marking Timeout is designed to generalize the effects of timeout contingencies to situations outside of the home. The procedure, which involves putting a mark on a child's hand to signal that a timeout period will occur later, is explained in a step-by-step manner.
