Abstract

Singapore has emerged in the 1980s as a major tourist destination in Asia due to a combination of favourable economic conditions and well-orchestrated marketing programmes. After experiencing a rapid growth of tourism, the country is now facing new challenges and opportunities in further positioning itself as a major 'gateway to the East'. This paper provides an in-depth look at the problems, current trends and issues in the country's tourism industry.
