Abstract

The paper is an exploratory study on the Market Structure of the Mobile Industry and the Indian Market. It gives an insight in the history of the market, the growth experienced over the years and the expectations for the future. It also studies the economic benefits of a growing Mobile Phone sector in a country and the pre-requisites for a successful market in the developing countries. The paper gives an in depth analysis of the Indian Mobile Phone industry and the reasons behind the Duopoly of Nokia and Samsung and then to subsequent shift towards a highly competitive market. It forecasts the growth of market in India and the reasons for success of many domestic and Chinese brands in the country. Through regional comparisons in the country, the paper studies the major factors that drive growth of the industry. It gives an insight into the benefits of a highly competitive industry. For a successful growth of the market in India, it is necessary that the government regulations, along with infrastructure and innovation development, become producer friendly to attract more foreign players to the country thus increasing competition in the market.
