Abstract

The medical utility of cannabis continues to be debated by policy makers, physicians, and the public. However, the debate is hampered by deeply held opinions that demand evidence on the one hand but do not acknowledge evidence on the other. Evidence of efficacy of smoked cannabis is emerging from small randomized controlled trials. Further trials of cannabis are indicated in conditions for which patients have already claimed benefit. Until such trials are completed, it is premature to argue that there is no future for herbal marijuana.
