Abstract

These are the first known fossil Diptera from sub-Saharan Africa. They are early Upper Cretaceous in age, and were collected from Botswana with fossil angiosperms. They are assigned to the extant family Bibionidae. The association of Diptera and angiosperms at this time in the fossil record suggests that the former played an important part in the evolution of the flower.
