Introduction

The number of substances with toxic effects exceeds 100,000. Most of these require quick and appropriate treatment due to their catastrophic effects such as death, blindness, and nervous system damage (Attazagharti, Soulaymani, Ouami, Mokhtari, & Soulaymani, 2009). Preventing poisonings has become a critical issue. According to the Health Prevention Convention, the concept of prevention defines “all measures, attitudes, and behaviors that tend to prevent disease or injury or to maintain and improve health” (WHO, 2004). Given the importance of this topic, in 2004 the World Health Organization (WHO) developed the International Program on Chemical Safety (IPCS). The program classified the poisoning cases and the actions taken to reduce their side effects into two categories (according to patterns of poisoning):
