Abstract

Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is dominated by the random behaviour of the sparking process and the secondary erosion and these create difficulties in the process control. Owing to very small spark gap, these problems get aggravated in micro EDM process and they become further complex in micro deep hole drilling EDM. To have better understanding of the material removal behaviour of micro deep hole drilling EDM, an experimental study was carried out and the effects of the factors like hold time, return time, sensitivity, capacitance and depth of hole were investigated. The result indicates that initially the material removal rate is predictable and latter due to randomness of the process, it becomes unstable and unpredictable.
