Abstract

The temperature dependence of the rate of color fading of an activated photochromic film was utilized in the mapping of a microwave field pattern. The minimum microwave power required was 5 mW/cm2. Using this mapping technique, a microwave hologram of a lamp bulb was recorded. The scaled down hologram was illuminated by a He–Ne laser beam in order to obtain an optical reconstruction of the microwave image of the bulb. Internal as well as the surface structure of the bulb was recognizable in the reconstructed optical image.
