Abstract

Abstract: Maps are required as an essential feature of monthly locust information and forecast bulletins to illustrate the distribution and life-cycle stage of potentially dangerous populations in eastern Australia. A basic mapping system was devised using symbols to signify locust density and stage within areas bounded by lines of latitude and longitude at 30' intervals. Reasons for this choice of area definition, rather than a U.T.M. grid system, are discussed and consideration given to the possible wider application of this system for mapping other species of the Australian flora and fauna.
