Abstract

The recently published summaries of the 2020 Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists clinical practice guidelines for mood disorders (MDcpg2020 ) aim to provide clinicians with a digestible summary of current best practice approaches to diagnosis and treatment. Several exciting developments are described which better align recommendations with the complexities of real-world practice, including the introduction of a dimensional approach to symptom classification, elevation of patient preferences, and recognition of the limitations of randomised controlled trials. Notably absent in the bipolar disorder (BD) summary, however, is guidance for clinicians in navigating the rapidly evolving field of internet and smartphone delivered interventions (eHealth).
