Abstract
Map and cross-section exercises can be beneficial to geology students at all levels. The laboratory exercises given here are based on various U.S. Geological Survey maps and cross sections and deal with folds, faults, age relationships, relation of topography to outcrop pattern, relation of erosional resistance to topography, dikes, sills, stocks, and relationship of structures to plate-tectonic phenomena. The exercises are intended for use at various instructional levels, ranging from introductory geology to upper-level courses such as structural geology and petrology.
