Abstract

Molecular MicrobiologyVolume 101, Issue 4 p. i-i Front CoverFree Access Many temperate actinobacteriophages replicate extrachromosomally during lysogeny and use partitioning cassettes for prophage maintenance. DNA sequencing reveals a diversity of Type Ib partitioning cassettes containing parA and parB genes as well as centromere-like sites parS-L and parS-R. Related phages exhibit lysogenic incompatibility through competition of ParB binding to the parS sites.
