Abstract

A means of analytically estimating suitable manufacturing tolerances for laminate ply angles is presented, where the tolerances are set to allow the laminate to meet a specified coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) requirement. The linear terms of a multivariable Taylor series expansion are used to determine the required tolerances. Numerical results are presented that show that the tolerances vary with ply angle but not with position through the thickness of the laminate.
