Abstract

1. Electrolytic titanium powders (99.75% Ti) were prepared from titanium sponge scrap. It was established that electrolytic titanium powder is greatly superior in quality to calcium-hydride-thermic titanium powder. 2. A study was made of the preparation of titanium alloy powders (Ti-Al, Ti-Al-V, Ti-Mn, Ti-Zr) by the electrolytic refining of scrap of standard titanium alloys. 3. The optimum conditions for the hydrogenation and subsequent dehydrogenation of VT5 and VT6 alloy scrap were established. Dehydrogenated VT5 and VT6 alloy powders were prepared approximating in chemical composition the starting alloys. 4. The problems involved in the manufacture of hard titanium compounds from titanium scrap and primary titanium-containing materials were examined.
