Abstract

Manuel Carpio's poetic work (1791-1860) has once again become under study and discussion among the Mexican 19'h Century readers. Recently, this momentum was favored by the facsimile edition of Carpio's Poesias, by Fernando Tola de Habich in 1998. This time, Pablo Mora answers in a documented manner the two essential questions for understanding the perception and poetics of the Mexico en 1847 poem's author: what made this poet appealing and he captivated so many readers?, why was the work of a writer that, reread at the end of the 20'h Century, turns to be monotonous, maybe alien in regards to the topic and excessive, so popular?
