Abstract

Manipulation under general anesthesia has been described in the orthopedic and osteopathic literature. Manipulation under regional anesthesia, however, has been described mostly for orthopedic surgical procedures. This article reviews the use of manipulation in the literature under general anesthesia as well as the limited information available on manipulation under regional anesthesia. Manual medicine techniques and regional anesthetic blocks are not new procedures or techniques. The authors attempt to stimulate the reader’s interest in the use of regional anesthetic blocks in combination with manual medicine procedures for patients who have been recalcitrant to less invasive types of treatment methods.
