Abstract

In this paper we investigate using the acoustic radiation force associated with a bulk acoustic standing wave to manipulate 5 nm diamond nano-particles in a user-defined pattern. Both concentric and rectangular patterns are studied and experimental results are compared to existing models. The effect of drag force acting on a nano-particle is evaluated and limits for particle speed and particle size that can be moved by acoustic radiation force are defined. We found good agreement between our experimental results and existing models and show that nano-sized particles can be manipulated by means of an acoustic radiation force.
