Abstract

Cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, both anterior and posterior, by arthroscopic technique is increasingly used today. We present the systematic handling and preparation of the Achilles allograft ligamentoplasty for use in anterior and posterior Cruciate ligaments performed by our team since 2000 in 45 cases. The use of tissues from tissue banks allows increasingly more difficult surgeries to be performed. The cases of reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament are increasing due to the increased number of patients on whom the first step is performed. The reconstruction of posterior cruciate ligament is being performed in an increasing number of cases due to allografts being larger and thicker than autografts. The systematic management of grafts coming from tissue banks requires a systemic protocol for the safety of the receptor patient. All systematic handling and preparation of the Achilles allograft presented in this work is performed by the nurse-or-instrumentalist, not only in the management and safety of the grafts, but there is also a circulating nurse available in the background, who also is important. According to NIC the operations than can be performed by nursing are: • Surgical care. Definition: Assisting the surgeon in the operative procedure on the part of/the instrumentalist. • Surgical precautions. Definition: minimize the possibility of iatrogenic injury to the patient involved in a surgical procedure.
