Abstract
The twofold thesis of this paper is that nationalism, as a program devoted to the defense and development of nations, is a well-founded doctrine, both on an ontologico-epistemological and on an axiological level. The ontologico-epistemological part of the thesis is that nations are real empirical entities, although they are not directly but rather theoretically identifiable. The axiological thesis is that it is something good that the universe consists of as great a variety as possible of things; consequently, an ethico-political program like nationalism, which propounds the preservation and development of nations, should be valued positively.

Summary
La doble tesis de este ensayo es que el nacionalismo, como programa de defensa y desarrollo de las naciones, es una doctrina bien fundada tanto a nivel ontológico-epistemológico como a nivel axiológico. La parte ontológico-epistemológica de la tesis es que las naciones son entidades empíricas reales, si bien no identificables de manera directa, sino por vía teórica. La tesis axiológica es que es algo bueno que el universo consista de la mayor diversidad posible de cosas; en consecuencia, un programa ético-político como el nacionalismo, que aboga por la preservación y el desarrollo de las naciones, debe ser valorado positivamente
