Abstract

We analyze the manifestations at LEP2 of a new massive gauge boson Z′, with M Z′ > 200 GeV. A number of possible measurements are reviewed, under realistic experimental assumptions. We find that the two most sensitive quantities are the ratio R′ = σ(had)/ σ( μ) and the longitudinal beam polarization asymmetry of hadron production A LR h. In particular, R′ would show the effect of a Z′ of some specific theoretical origin for M Z′ up to 400 GeV, and the combination of R′ with A LR h might lead to a satisfactory determination of the parameters of the model for a Z′ of general left-right symmetry origin.
