Abstract

The dilatometric properties, such as the temperature coefficient of linear expansion in the range 20–300°C, the structural temperature coefficient of linear expansion, and the glass transition temperature T g of RO(R2O) · 2B2O3 glasses are investigated upon replacement of Na2O by BaO, Na2O by MgO, and BaO by MgO. It is revealed that, upon these replacements, the composition dependence of the temperature coefficient of linear expansion exhibits an additive behavior, whereas the composition dependences of the structural temperature coefficient of linear expansion and the glass transition temperature T g deviate from an additive behavior. These regularities are associated with the difference in the energy of cation-oxygen bonds and a different effect of cations on the coordination state of boron.
