Abstract

We study the manifestation of chiral symmetry and the effective potential in an external color-electromagnetic field, using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. We derive the effective potential, the dynamical quark mass and the q− q ̄ pair creation rate for the covariantly-constant color-electromagnetic field. In the flux-tube picture, chiral symmetry restoration would occur inside mesons and at the early stage of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions.
