Abstract

A feature of dynamical pinches is their tendency to generate nonthermal (fast) particles. The development of ion runaway and manifestations of a recently proposed ion gyro-reflection-acceleration in computer simulations and Schlieren pictures taken at plasma focus experiments are studied. Consequences concerning pinch equilibrium and stability are outlined.
