Abstract
XANES and EXAFS investigations on precipitated MnFe 2O 4 together with other results indicate the presence of trivalent manganese and divalent iron. The amount of Mn(III) in this compound was determined to be 40%. In addition, a large Jahn-Teller elongation of the MnO 6-octahedra was found.
