Abstract
Objectives: To review the current management of high grade gliomas, including advances in diagnosis, treatment options and clinical follow-up. Methods: A literature review of the Pubmed and National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) database regarding the diagnosis and treatment of high-grade glioma articles was performed emphasizing advances in new therapies, neuroimage and surgical treatment. Results: We present the classical histological classification of gliomas, potential molecular markers for future therapeutic interventions, neuroradiological advances for functional evaluation and techniques of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring for improving tumor resection with functional preservation. Clinical management of these patients is also discussed. Conclusions: The advances in molecular oncology, neuroradiological techniques and intraoperative monitoring have greatly contributed to improve the treatment results of patients with high-grade gliomas.
