Abstract

Background: Focal Cemento-Osseous Dysplasia (FCOD) is a fibrous bone lesion characterized by substitution of the bone architecture by fibroblasts and collagen fibers with mineralized material. FCOD is normally associated with black patients of the female sex and affects the anterior region of the mandible. FCOD is asymptomatic, and is discovered in routine exams in patients in the age-range between 30 and 50 years. Patients with FCOD do not require surgical treatments, except in situations of contamination via endodontic, periodontal, iatrogenic pathways or in cases of osteomyelitis and osteonecrosis.
