Abstract

Autogenous block grafting must be integrated into treatment planning by today’s implant surgeon to effectively treat patients with compromised implant sites. This clinically oriented lecture will draw from the author’s experience with more than 500 block autografts over a twelve-year time frame. The indications, contraindications, surgical protocol, histology, and complications from this database will be analyzed to feature the art and science of autogenous block grafting. Both symphysis and ramus buccal shelf donor sites will be compared and contrasted. In addition, both anterior and posterior maxillary and mandibular recipient sites will be featured in detail. Comprehensive case studies will highlight the advantages and predictability of this surgical grafting technique that will also include sinus grafting and the use of platelet-rich plasma and soft tissue grafting, especially in the esthetic zone.
