Abstract

Abstract This paper, using insights from literature as well as from contemporary social work, explores the presence of family violence and the ways in which violent emotions can develop. It is concerned to place individual social workers' awareness of their own violent feelings in the context of those experienced by clients within disturbed family settings. From an awareness of practitioners' reactions to clients' violent behaviour, the paper argues that the management of the impact of this behaviour rests with the senior managers of social work agencies.
