Abstract

The paper discusses the experience of Hunting Engineering Ltd as prime contractor in applying reliability growth management techniques to development programmes for one shot defence equipment. A positive approach to planning for reliability growth has provided an opportunity to influence programme formulation at an early project stage. Programme aspects that have required particular consideration are discussed. Efficient collection and validation of data is essential to provide timely and relevant information to support programme decisions affecting reliability growth. HEL's management system for this task is described. Reliability growth management has proved to be much more than just another analytical tool to aid the reliability engineer. It has assisted in bringing together the range of engineering and management disciplines involved in a project towards a more integrated approach to reliability achievement.
