Abstract

Dental implantology is now a well established science for provision of fixed teeth replacements. There are structural and physiological differences between the peri implant tissues and periodontium. This reflects in the manner in which an osseo integrated dental implant and a natural tooth respond to microbial or physical stimuli. The common biological complications associated with dental implants are peri implant mucositis and periimplantitis. Both conditions are due to inflammatory response to dental biofilm accumulation. This paper analyses the diagnosis and treatment of peri implant diseases based on current evidence .
