Abstract

The combined effect of the steady increase in patent applications and volume per application is likely to enhance the backlog issues faced by National Patent Offices. The main goal of this work was to design different strategies to properly assess INPI-BR patent examiners' workload, according to the volume of applications. Data from a representative set of patent applications was automatically collected, and the results show that each technical division within INPI-BR displays a particular application volume distribution, and varying degrees of correlation between examiners’ workloads.
