Abstract

Oxford City Council is one of the larger district councils in England, with a workforce of some 1300 office and manual staff. The Council has adopted, as one of its core objectives, the aim of becoming an employer of choice with excellent HR policies and good terms and conditions of employment. In pursuing that objective, the Council has become a Living Wage Employer, adopting an Oxford Living Wage that is linked directly to the London Living Wage, in recognition of the high cost of housing in Oxford. The Council has also achieved the Investors in People Gold and Champion accreditations, and was recently awarded the distinction of International Investors in People Champion.
