Abstract

Abstract This chapter addresses the differences between interpretation and education, with a focus on marine wildlife tours. It highlights the importance of interpretation on marine wildlife tours, using two case studies from Australia and New Zealand. A framework to support structured interpretation programmes, with the goal of promoting conservation, is then considered. Finally, two frameworks for successful interpretation (the Forestell and Kaufman model and the Orams model) are discussed. The discussion in this chapter contends that interpretation and education of (marine) wildlife tourists, but also of guides and members of other stakeholder groups, can play a crucial role in the endeavour for conservation of marine resources.
