Abstract

For many years, Canadians have been at the forefront of thinking about the interdependence of people and the natural environment. Canada has achieved a high level of human development and has made progress toward a healthier environment in a number of areas. But important challenges remain. A key challenge is how to turn thoughts and words into concrete action. I believe that with sound management practices we can make significant advances in protecting our environment and promoting sustainable development.
