Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has wreaked havoc on our lifestyle and habits. India, being a highly populated nation, has put up several efforts in the battle against COVID, through the state and national governing bodies. A small, southern state of India, Kerala, gained a worldwide appreciation for its stupendous toil against the COVID attacks. Kerala also achieved impressive milestones in the areas of education and maternal health. Spontaneous measures taken for quarantine, isolation, treatment drugs, and therapeutic facilities have definitely helped during the course. Even so, with the onset of different variants of COVID, Kerala could not contain the rise in cases during the third phase. The stress and social isolation have created a negative impact on livelihood. This paper discusses the impact of COVID on different aspects including metabolic and systemic diseases, treatment, medical education, government measures, and case surge.
