Abstract

The objective of this book is to examine the role of international institutions as security providers in the European order. The fundamental question to be pursued is the degree to which the new institutional security architecture can respond to the challenges of instability and insecurity currently besetting the European order. The focus will be upon political and military conflict and the role of NATO, the OSCE, the EU, the WEU, and the UN. The contextual backdrop will be the changing nature of security and conflict in Europe in the post-Cold War world.
