Abstract

South Asians living in the United Kingdom (UK) have a higher incidence of coronary heart disease than the indigenous population. Their increased risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD) is as high as 40% or more and they can die at a younger age. Although the death rate from CHD are falling in the UK, it does not appear to be falling as fast in South Asians living here. This care study focuses on the management of a 59-year-old South Asian man who attended at a rapid-access chest-pain clinic in southeast London. It highlights the challenges of managing his chest pain symptoms, supporting him with the self-managed Angina Plan programme to help him cope with his condition and change his lifestyle.
